Chateau de Croix Labrie Camille de Labrie 2012

$39.00

This was a great find! Skillfully made by St Emilion Grand Cru producer Chateau de Croix Labrie,  this is a delicious silky Bordeaux at a bargain price.

Description

Chateau de Croix Labrie is perhaps the smallest producer of quality wine in Saint-Emilion. They are called “garagistes”. (The production would fit in a garage!).

The grand cru wine is highly sought after. This wine is made from a parcel grown just outside St Emilion, so its labelled AOC Bordeaux, but produced to the exacting standards of the main chateau wine. Camille is the winemakers daughter who designed the label.

Wine maker/owners Axelle and Pierre Courdurié have built an enviable “garagiste” reputation with their highly sought after, limited production wine.

Chateau de Croix Labrie is some of the rarest of the great wines of Bordeaux, their wines have great elegance, are deep in colour with lots of finesse. While they have an ability to age, Croix de Labrie wines exhibit power, balance and freshness in their youth.

Robert Parker described them as: “Always one of the sexiest wines from Bordeaux”.

This new offering is a juicy and friendly Bordeaux, that reflects the fresh, young, vibrancy of Axelle and Pierre’s young daughter, Camille, who also designed the label with its appealing naïve and colourful imagery.

Region/Terroir: AOC Bordeaux. The grapes for this wine are grown on the boundary of the Saint-Emilion appellation and so are labelled Bordeaux.

Grapes: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon

Soil Type: Clay, chalk and gravel soils of the right bank.

Alcohol: 14% VOL

Wine making: Bottled after 16 months (10 months in oak barrels).

Our tasting notes: Deep ruby red colour. Lively nose with lots of fruit and slightly smoky. It is fresh and balanced and juicy with  tobacco, blackcurrent, aniseed, mineral and red cherry notes with some hints of flowers combined with silky tannins. Ultimately satisfying and powerful fruit but gorgeous tannins and all in good balance.

Helen: ” I like the soft spicy nose. It has smooth tannins but lovely fruit.”

Craig: ” this was a bit of a “wow” in the glass, powerful/complex fruit wrapped in velvet tannins.”

Food Match: Bresse chicken, grilled meats, cheese.

Single bottles, multiple bottles or complete boxes (6 bottles) may be ordered.

Reviews:
