A classy off dry white wine from the famous organic Sauternes producer Château Guiraud. A favourite of Jancis Robinson.
G de Guiraud has been a favourite of the DiscoverVin team for some years and the 2015 continues the quality/good price reputation of this wine. This is the dry white wine of fabled premier grand cru Sauternes producer Château Guiraud. It is increasingly in demand as the international market seeks out more quality dry white.
Château Guiraud is certified organic since 2011.
Region/Terroir: G de Guiraud is produced from 37 acres in the Bordeaux Appellation. 45 kilometres south from Bordeaux, on the left bank of the Garonne River, Château Guiraud extends over 128 hectares. The whole estate is located in the village of Sauternes.
Grapes: Sauvignon Blanc (50%), Semillon (50%). Average age of vines is 15 years.
Alcohol: 13.5% VOL
Soil: Sandy gravel with some deeper layers of gravel and clay.
Wine making: The grapes are harvested manually choosing the ripest bunches and excluding all moulding or green grapes. A second selection through the vines may be necessary. After pressing and keeping only the very first juice, the juice is clarified at a low temperature (10°C) for 24 hours. This wine is barrel fermented in sauternes barrels of one wine and aged for seven months on lees.
Cellaring Potential: Great drinking now – until 2022.
Our Tasting notes: Fragrant and pure on the nose with notes of soft citrus (lemon), white flowers and stone fruits. The palate is bright and mouthwateringly fresh. Notes of lemon, white peach and a touch of sea salt are framed by a tense mineral structure and carry through onto a long finish. A touch of oiliness that is the hallmark of quality Bordeaux blanc. Enjoy with white meats, fish, salads, or perhaps a smoked salmon.
Single bottles, multiple bottles or complete boxes (6 bottles) may be ordered.
Jancis Robinson 16.5 points “Off dry but well balanced with real fruit and tingle. I think many people would enjoy the combination of richness and freshness. ”
