A well-made Burgundy/Pinot Noir from Savigny-lès-Beaune one of the great villages of Burgundy . 2014 is considered an excellent vintage with top quality across Burgundy.
One of the great appellations of the Côtes de Beaune, is Savigny-lès-Beaune.
This wine is from a tiny 0.5730 ha (1.41acres) parcel located in Savigny-Lès-Beaune.
Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir.
Soil: The soils of this portion of the appellation are composed of the soil is limestone/gravel on a hard limestones base.
Alcohol: 12.5 % VOL
Wine making: The grapes are picked manually and then hand-sorted. 90% of the harvest is de-stemmed so as to avoid excessive bitterness from the stalks. Fermentation with maceration then goes on for 18 days in conical vats with thermoregulation. This allows control of fermentation temperatures and has direct influence on aromas and colour extraction. Finally, gentle pressing occurs.
The wines are barrelled for 18 months, according to vintage, in oak casks, of which 30 % are new, with a variety of origins of wood. Whilst the wine is maturing, it is regularly stirred up (bâtonné), putting the lees back into suspension, bringing more fatness and roundness. Racking takes place prior to bottling, with no fining, just light filtration, preserving the natural riches of the appellation.
Our Tasting notes: Deep and full ruby-red colour. Very attractive nose, it has lovely red fruit with sweet spice aromas. Lively on the palate, it has fine and well integrated tannins, with beautifully fleshy red fruit.
Allan Meadows’ Burghund.com : “A relatively high-toned nose combines notes of various red berries, earth, spice and game hints. There is good volume to the lush, round, indeed even seductive flavours that terminate in a mildly austere finale. This moderately firm effort is not especially precise but I like the balance and overall depth. 87-89 points, drink 2022+”
Serving suggestions: It will accompany game and poultry such as duck, roasts of red meats, fine mild cheeses. Serve at 17°C. (So no harm in popping it into the fridge for 30 minutes in summer to take the edge off any warmth)
Cellaring potential: 7 to 10 years.
Single bottles, multiple bottles or complete boxes (6 bottles) may be ordered.
