“One of the best value wines in Bordeaux” Robert Parker. From the great 2010 vintage. Oz wine writer Winsor Dobbin said “Bordeaux that is delicious but affordable”.
Château Greysac is a Cru Bourgeois producer in the Médoc and was recently purchased by Jean Guyon, owner of Château Rollan de By.
Through this acquisition Domaines Rollan de By becomes one of the most important properties of the Medoc, both for the quality of its wines and its size – altogether 200 hectares of exceptional terroir of clay and gravelly soils around the village of By. Distributed in over 50 countries, their wines are also often selected by airlines for their customers, especially in Business Class.
Grapes: 65% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc.
Soil: Quaternery gravel and clay.
Alcohol: 12.5% VOL
Wine making: The vines have an average age of 20 years. Grapes are harvested by hand. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel temperature controlled vats over 3 months with lees batonnage. The wine is aged for 18 months in new oak barrels.
Cellaring potential: Drink 2014-2022 or possibly later.
Tasting notes: Perhaps Jancis Robinson’s review says it best (reviewed Oct 2012):” Dark crimson. Fresh, dark fruit with a touch of vanilla. Not showy but satisfying and complete: fresh, firm, not too dry, and mouthwatering on the finish. Long, juicy aftertaste.” Or Wine Spectator: “ Lightly roasted wood spice and licorice notes line the linzer torte and blackberry sauce flavors, with an earthy hint on the finish.”
“One of the best producers in Medoc” Oz Clarke.
James Suckling 90 points, Wines Spectator 88 points, Wine Enthusiast 89 points, Jancis Robinson 16/20, Gault Millau 16/20, Decanter World Wine Awards Bronze
