Looking for something other than chardonnay or sauvignon blanc, this could be the wine! This premium white is designed to keep. Best drunk 2015-2022.
This is a special dry white wine that is receiving great feed-back from our customers and will continue to improve for years to come.
Grapes: Made from 70% petit manseng and 30% gros manseng.
Winemaking techniques: Hand-picked from old vines (between 50 and 60 years old) and aged in oak barrles (30% new) for 9 months to add complexity to the wine. Traditional methods and know how are used but enhanced with modern technology in the winery.
Our tasting notes: The nose is very expressive and complex citrus and stone fruits, some elegant buttery notes. There are also some spicy and mineral notes. The palate is lively, long, rounded and complex with citrus (grapefruit, orange flower) and complex stone fruit flavours (peaches and nectarines) plus some almond notes. Good acid to give great balance and structure to the wine.
When to drink: Can be enjoyed now but will also keep for 8 to 10 years (i.e. 2017 to 2019)
Suggested food match: just on its own or perfect with white meats and seafood. Will also hold up with slightly spicy dishes.
Single bottles, multiple bottles or complete boxes (12 bottles) can be ordered.
A previous vintage wine received the following review by Andrea Frost in the Melbourne Review May 2013:
“I enjoyed this wine on one of those lovely autumn afternoons when the temperature was still warm and the trees dripping with golden leaves. Jurançon Sec is a dry white wine style from South West France that sits somewhere between the excited shrill of a Sauvignon Blanc and the luscious complexity of a worked Chardonnay. This La Pierre Blanche is a lovely wine with a complex nose of honey, wet stone, chalk and stonefruit continuing on the palate. Excellent acidity gives the wine pace and race all the way down. It made me smile, but so the lore and legend goes, not nearly as much as this style of wine made the French poet Colette smile. A fan of the white wine varieties of Manseng she was once quoted as saying, “I was a girl when I met this prince; aroused, impervious, treacherous as all great seducers are.” Don’t take my word there’s something else going on here; lift the lid and take a turn with the Prince yourself.”
“Deep, complex, tangerine and lime flavours up front and a spicy, vibrant citrus finish” Dan Coward SBS Feast Magazine WIne of the Month July 2013
