Fleur de Clinet

Made from the younger vines at famous Chateau Clinet. Fabulous merlot. Aged to perfection.

This is the second wine of Château Clinet, one of the prestigious producers of Pomerol.  Pomerol is a small, but distinctive appellation where Merlot dominates.  This is the second wine because of the use of grapes from young vines in what is considered one of the best parcels of Pomerol

Region/Terroir:  Pomerol

Grapes:  Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), Merlot (90%).

Soil:  Château Clinet is situated on gravel terraces (more of the Gunziennes – large pebbles which suit Merlot).  It is the terroir of the greatest Merlots in the world.

Alcohol:  13% VOL

Wine making:  Grapes are hand harvested and made using traditional Pomerol winemaking methods where the objective is to keep as much freshness as possible.  Cold fermentation occurs in oak vats.  The wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months.

Cellaring Potential:  Will keep for several years but approachable now.

Our Tasting notes:  Deep colour.  Excellent nose of red fruits (strawberry, raspberries etc.), blackcurrant, tobacco and spice on the nose.  Elegant and velvety taste with hints of spices and a long finish with a touch of vanilla and tobacco.  Nice length.

Wine Spectator gave this vintage a score of 87 and described the wines as “Elegant, with a lightly chalky spine holding together the notes of raspberry and cherry. Hints of tobacco and herb glide in on the finish. Drink now. 1,819 cases made.”

Single bottles, multiple bottles or complete boxes (12 bottles) may be ordered.
