This is a great introduction to the delicious wines of Madiran. Wine with character, great fruit, lovely minerals and spicy notes, wrapped up in soft tannins and possessing a great balance.
Terroir: The Arte Benedicte comes from a selection of the best vineyards within the appellation of Madiran. Soils are clay-limestone and clay-sandy. Close to the Pyrennees and the Atlantic Ocean creating a mild oceanic climate. The early autumn is characterised by sunny weather which is a major asset of the region. It allows the winegrowers to harvest late when the grapes have reached full maturity.
Grape Varieties: Tannat 70%, Pinenc 10%, Cabernet Sauvignon 15%, Cabernet France 5%. Tannat produces a rich, powerful and tannic wine, which softens over a few years to give beautifully savoury and structured wines.
Winemaking: Made form a selection of the best hand harvested grapes. De-stalking, maceration, fermentation for 12-20 days in stainless-steel vats under controlled temperature. Running off the pressed wines, controlled malo-lactic fermentation, cold stabilisation and clarification. The wine is then aged in 225 litre barrels for 14 months.
Tasting Notes: Inky purple colour. A powerful nose with aromas of red fruit, stone fruit, roasted notes and cocoa beans. The palate is full and rich with a roundness and structure which together forms a pleasant balance dominated by an aromatic freshness. The finish is long.
Serve with grilled or BBQ meats, game and cheeses. Would impress your friends at a BBQ!
