Description

This wine has been selected by Air France to serve in First Class!

It was reviewed by Sean Mitchell in the Grape Observer in November 2012…

“I was quite taken by this Médoc wine.  A blend of 65% merlot, 15% cabernet sauvignon, 10% cabernet franc and 10% petit verdot, it has classic left bank Bordeaux aromatics of earth, blackcurrant, tobacco leaf and some cigar box.  Its palate has a quite rounded mouthfeel with acid edges that I found to be quite moreish.  Layers of flavour gently presented themselves – blackcurrants and tobacco leaf mainly – and are supported by quite lingering length and fine grained tannins.  This is a very attractive wine and, considering the difficult 2007 Bordeaux vintage from which it was born, it is well worth your attention.  Good to Very Good”

Tour Séran originated in the 17th century and belonged to the Marquis de Ségur. Jean Guyon has worked to develop a series of Médoc Vineyards, beginning with Château Rollan de By.  Château Tour Séran was added to his portfolio of estates in 2000.  The vines on the 10 hectare vineyard have an average age of 25 years.

Jean Guyon is advised by winemakers Alain Raynaud and Riccardo Cotarella. While unusual for the French to be advised by an Italian winemaker, is not as strange as it seems, as the Cotarella family estate in Lazio, Falesco, is famed for its 100% Merlot wine, Montiano.

Region/Terroir:  Médoc –Cru bourgeois

Grapes: Merlot (65%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (10%).

Alcohol: 12.5% VOL

Soil:  Gravelly soils

Wine making: Grapes are hand picked in small crates and hand sorted in the winery. Fermentation occurs at low temperatures in stainless steel, temperature controlled vats. Malolactic fermentation occurs partially in 50% new oak barrels. The wine is aged for 3 months on lees and then for 12 months in 100% French oak.

Cellaring potential:  Drinking well now but will improve/develop over the next 10 years.

Our Tasting notes:  Lifted nose of red and black fruits.  This wine has power, length, luscious fruit and fine tannins already nicely integrated.

This wine is another good example of great value for money wines that DiscoverVin is importing to Australia.

This wine has been served on Air France first and business class – if it’s good enough for them…

Single bottles, multiple bottles or complete boxes (12 bottles) may be ordered.
