Chateau Tour des Gendres Cuvée des Conti 2014

$34.80

A delicious white wine from one of the leading wine-makers in Bergerac, and indeed the whole of France. Biodynamic production (low in sulphur, no artificial chemical sprays)

Description

This wine is made by Luc de Conti who is considered to be one of the leading biodynamic wine-makers in France. Recently Wine Spectator magazine named him a “vinarchiste” i.e. a wine anarchistic, as he is turning the wine world on its head. Bergerac has traditionally been a red wine region, however Luc is making fantastic white wines from the ancient soils using modern methods. He grows his grapes organically (no pesticides, no herbicides, only natural fertilisers and minimal sulphur). His red wines are excellent too!

This wine is flavoursome (peaches, passionfruit, lemon) crisp and dry. It’s had good reviews in Wine Enthusiast (USA) 18/20 and Revue de Vin de France 14/20  and Bettane and Desseauve 14.5/20 (France). A perfect summer food match and a perfect treat at the end of a busy day.

Wine Enthusiast said: “With its 50% Sémillon, this ripe wine has the potential to be rich. It has a perfumed, fruity character at this stage, emphasizing flowery fruits along with citrus. As it develops, it will fill out comfortably. Drink from 2016.”

Our tasting notes: The wine offers a combination of a superb aromatic and complex structure with a full, fleshy and lively taste.
The colour is a pale, shiny golden. The nose is intense and elegant, with orange blossom and pear aromas. On the palate, its peaches, passionfruit and lemons bringing mouth filling fruit and freshness at the same time – a perfect balance.
