Late harvest heaven
Out of stock
The sweet wines of Jurançon are amongst the great sweet/dessert wines of the world and great value for money. This wine has aged gracefully, gained complexity and sits at the pinnacle of wines from this appellation.
Terroir: Château Jolys, the largest estate from AOC Jurançon with its 36 hectares, is located on the superb hills of Chapelle de Rousse village.
The clayey and chalky soils are exposed south and/or south-west.
The planted hills look like amphitheatres facing the Pyrenees mountains.. The autumn is long and dry allowing the grapes to concentrate. The petit manseng grapes are thick skinned and resistant to rot/botrytis and the sweetness is produced by the lateness of the harvest. The “Vendanges Tardives” (“late harvest”) is the result of the final harvest around December 15th.
Grapes: This 100% Petit Manseng wine is made from selected grapes that benefited from the autumn sunshine, ever present in the region.
Wine making: Skin fermentation allows maximal extraction of these grapes; gentle, slow pressing follows this and then 8 months barrel ageing in the magnificent Château Jolys wine storehouse.
Our tasting notes: The complex, expressive nose is marked by notes of candied fruit, quince, pineapple and spices. On the palate, this wine charms with its sweetness and surprises with its freshness. Many different aromas appear – tropical fruit, candied fruit, spices, honey…). There are considerable developed characteristics of citrus, apricots and marmalade, consistent with the wines age. This wine has a long finish. All the elegance of a Petit Manseng… Enjoy by itself or with foie gras, smoked salmon, blue cheeses, or fresh fruit desserts.
