Chateau Dassault

$99.00

Amongst the best producers of Saint Émillion.

Description

Château Dassault is situated on the northern slopes of Saint Émilion.  The average age of the vines is 35 years.  Industrialist Marcel Dassault bought the Château in 1955 and heavily invested in the vineyards and winery.  His hard work was rewarded in 1969 when the estate was recognized as a Grand Cru Classé in the Saint Émilion classification system.  Today Château Dassault is operated by his grandson Laurent, working closely with winemaker Laurence Brun, to produce a wine representative of a specific terroir.

Region/Terroir:  Saint Émilion, Grand Cru Classé

Grapes:  Cabernet Sauvignon (8%), Merlot (80%), Cabernet Franc (12%).

Soil:  Ancient siliceous and siliceous limestone sand.

Alcohol:  13.5% VOL

Wine making:  Grapes are harvested by hand using small trays with an initial inspection of fruit in the vineyard, then further screening on two vibrating tables in the cellar.

Winemaking occurs in small, concrete, temperature controlled vats.  Malolactic fermentation occurs in new oak barrels.  Ageing occurs in oak barrels  (70% new and 30% one-year-old) for 14-18 months.

Cellaring potential:  This is made to keep for many years, however it is so balanced, soft and approachable, it will be hard not to drink now!

Our Tasting notes:  Consistently rating amongst the best.  Maybe we will let Parker tell us what he thinks ….”A classic hedonistic style of St.-Émilion from famous French aircraft manufacturers, this wine displays oodles of plum and red and black currant notes with sweet cherries and roasted herbs. Soft and racy, the velvety texture cascades over the palate. This is a vin de plaisir and proud of it. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.”    89 Points    The Wine Advocate

Single bottles, multiple bottles or complete boxes (12 bottles in a wooden case) may be ordered.
